5 Deceptive Health Foods Preventing You from Losing Weight

unhealthy-foodsHealth food is often a misnomer. Sometimes a product that is marketed as “healthy” is very much unhealthy for you and your waistline. Don’t ever trust what marketers tell you about foods, because they have the motive to lie about the healthfulness of their produce. Make no mistake, it’s all about sales for them.

We have to be vigilant about what we put into our bodies. After all, we bear the brunt. Here are five foods that are commonly thought to be a part of a good diet (see the paleo diet). But in reality, these foods are Trojan horses that invite enemy fat and unhealthiness into your body.

  1. Orange JuiceOrange juice, seemingly, has a lot going for it:
    • It’s made from oranges, which are a fruit – these are supposed to be healthy, right?
    • It is chock full of Vitamin C.

    What the OJ marketers don’t tell you, is that it’s LOADED with sugar! In fact, a glass of it contains about as much as a can of soda. Think about that for a second. Not in a million years would a tin of soda be marketed as a health-food. Yet OJ is still considered a great way to start out your morning.

  2. Artificial SweetenersAs mentioned, soda isn’t the best thing that you can ingest. It is packed with sugar, which everyone knows is bad news and makes people fat. So the solution is to opt for diet versions, then, isn’t it? After all, they do contain sweeteners, instead.

    Wrong. Artificial sweeteners are big time culprits that are behind the derailment of many diets. Here’s the thing: although they do not contain sugar, they trick your body into thinking that they do, which can be even worse than when you consume the real stuff.

    Just put the Diet Coke down, and everything will be alright.

  3. Fake ButtersJust like imitation sweeteners, artificial butters can be more harmful than the real thing. And none is worse than margarine.

    Margarine seems like it might actually be healthier than regular butter. It has less fat overall, and the taste is comparable. What these facts don’t reveal is that it is crammed with trans-fats. These are absolutely terrible for you, and should be avoided at all costs.

    Margarine could be the one thing that is preventing you from losing weight.

  4. Whole Wheat BreadWhole wheat bread is supposedly a healthy substitute for white bread (which is basically just sugar in a different form, cut neatly into slices.)

    Unfortunately, many of these breads are marketed as whole wheat when in fact they are just as unhealthy as their white counterparts. Read the ingredients label to be sure.

  5. Soy ProductsSoy products like tofu contain chemicals that, when consumed in excess, can mess with the body’s natural process of protein absorption.

    Protein is essential for proper bodily function. Without it, we couldn’t grow muscle and our metabolisms would be out of whack, among other things. Avoid the stuff if you are serious about losing weight.
